Useful tips for decorating your hallway

You walk through your hallway to get to other rooms in your house. However, we often forget that the hallway is also a room in the house, so we must therefore remember to decorate the hallway as well.

While it is true that it is not the highest on the priority list, it does not hurt to give it some attention. You will eventually see that decorating your hallway is something that will add the finishing touch to your home or apartment.

When we talk about decorating the hallway, you may only think of it as doing one thing: hanging pictures on the wall. But honestly, how boring is it not with a long time filled with pictures that no one is looking at?

The second thing you might think of is hanging up the typical family photos. Of course, you can hang your Monet replica in better places than in the hallway.

When decorating the hallway to make it more attractive and fun, let’s be honest with ourselves. Decorate it with things that you and your guests want to look at.

So, what should you have on your walls?

Decorative elements that fit well in a hallway

  • Mirror. Yes, a mirror fits perfectly in a hallway because it gives a feeling of space and light. You can hang the mirror with a table underneath or not.
  • Table. It should preferably be a narrow small table without drawers. Tables with drawers make you want to use them for storing things, which you quickly forget where you have put. You also do not need to fill the top with pictures or ornaments. You can simply use just a simple table runner and some simple decorations.
  • Medium or large decorative objects. If you have a large hallway, decorate with medium or large decorations. It can be, for example, an old antique lamp, a large vase (with flowers or branches), wooden boxes or the like.
  • Lamps. Some people like to hang colorful lamps that are very decorative. If you are one of them, try not to have so many things hanging around it. That way, the lamp becomes more in focus. Of course, you also have to make sure to hang it up somewhere in the hallway where people will see it. If you choose to have only a single lamp, it is important that it provides enough light for the other decorations there.
  • Carpet. This is another optional item. A nice rag in the hallway can make the house feel cozy and warm. It also helps a little to unite the decor throughout the house.
  • Paint / wallpaper. If your hallway is wide and you want to give it a personal touch and color, then you can decorate it with wallpaper or an exciting color. Another good idea is to combine both for a visual effect and make it look dynamic.
  • Wall mural. Nowadays, there is photo wallpaper with, among other things, many beautiful landscape photos. They quickly form the illusion that the passage does not end there, but that it leads out into nature. The best thing about image wallpaper is that it can be easily adapted to any need.

Ideas for decorating your hallway

A good idea to decorate your hallway is to have a simple thing that is the center of attention. For example, you may want to focus on a chandelier, so you can paint the ceiling with a light tone. Neutral tones also work well.

Another idea is to leave the walls shiny or in a neutral color. Then use a colorful rug that catches the attention of the design and material. Instead of using a lot of decorative items, you can put out a basket with pillows in different colors and sizes at the end of the hallway. It will help to offer a warm welcome.

You can also add more of the things mentioned above: a lamp, a mirror or a table. Look for something that is unique and different from what is common. An example might be instead of a square, round or oval mirror, use one that has a different shape or that has a decorative frame. On a table, select only a few ornaments. A few candles, a wooden figure or a plant are all good tips.

If these ideas have caught your attention but do not fit into your hallway, then try it out, experiment and adapt it to your home. One idea can lead to the next and soon you have a great home!
