Learn How To Grow A Lemon Tree From Seed

We know that lemon trees bloom all year round outdoors, especially in areas where the climate is warm and has a lot of sun. But not many people know that it is possible to grow a lemon tree indoors, just like other indoor plans, and that in colder climates we can thus also enjoy these citrus fruits that are so good for our health.

If you have the opportunity to cut off a bit of a lemon tree, the work of growing is easier and you can get fruit in less time. But it is very difficult to grow a tree with some cut twigs, and it requires a lot of care to get good results. On the other hand, sowing a lemon tree from seed can be a very pleasing experience, but it can take between three to six years before it produces fruit.

Citrus fruits, like lemons, offer several health benefits, with the added benefit of being able to plant them right in your own home. What you need to plant and grow your own lemon tree

A lemon

It is very important to start with an organic lemon because the seeds of non- organic lemons can be sterile. Any type of organic lemon seed will work, but if space or climate come into play  , we recommend starting with one particular lemon called Meyer. This type of lemon is smaller and is used as an ornament, which makes it great for sowing in pots indoors.

Plant soil

Any type of plant soil will work, but we recommend using a mixture of peat moss, perlite, vermiculite and organic fertilizers.

Potte

When the tree germinates, a container with drainage holes will be sufficient, for example 12 to 15 cm deep and a few cm in diameter. Remember that you have to plant the tree after it has sprouted and that lemon trees prefer a container that is wider than it is deep.

Sunlight

Lemon trees require a lot of sunlight, especially when they are sprouting. They are best placed near a sunny window or in the garden to get the right amount of daylight. If you do not live in a climate that gets enough light, you can use a plant light.

How to make a lemon seed germinate

• First you need wet plant soil. Put some soil in a bucket or bucket and add water until the soil is thoroughly wet.
• Share a lemon and pick out a seed you think is full of life. Then take the seed in your mouth and suck on it until the taste of lemon disappears. Be aware that the seed must be moist to germinate, so try to keep it in your mouth a little before it is time to plant.
• Plant the seed about 1-2 cm into the soil and cover. Feel free to plant more seeds. Water gently with a spray bottle.
• Cover the container with plastic wrap to keep the seeds warm and moist. You can use plastic film or a clear plastic bag with some holes.
• Remember to place the container in a warm, sunny area. You should check it often, do not allow the soil to dry out. Be aware that strong heat or moisture can cause the seed to rot.

• After two to three weeks, you should be able to see the lemon tree sprout from the ground. Remove the plastic wrap and place the small plant in an area with direct sunlight.
• Remember to take care of the tree every day and give it plenty of water, sun and organic fertilizer.
